Short version: post matcha, be decent.

What belongs here

Photos of matcha, honest reviews of places that serve it, and useful detail about what a drink was actually like. If it would help somebody decide where to go, it belongs.

Every post is tied to a shop from our directory. That is what makes this a guide rather than a feed.

What does not

  • Anything not about matcha. Coffee, brunch, your dog. Lovely, wrong place.
  • Cruelty. Harassment, pile-ons, or going after a person rather than a drink.
  • Slurs and hate. Attacks on people for who they are. No warnings for this one.
  • Threats or violence. Including jokes that would not read as jokes to the person receiving them.
  • Nudity and sexual content.
  • Spam and fakery. Reviews you were paid to write, reviews of your own business, reviews of places you have never been.
  • Other people's photos. Post pictures you took.

Criticism is welcome

A bad review is not a rule violation. If the matcha was dusty and the milk was cold, say so. What we act on is cruelty aimed at people, not honesty aimed at a drink.

Shops cannot buy a better rating. Ratings are calculated from reviews and there is no way for anyone -- including us -- to set one.

What happens if you cross the line

Depending on how bad it is: the post is hidden, the post is removed, you get a warning, or the account is suspended. Slurs, threats and sexual content skip straight to the end of that list.

Every decision is written down with a reason. If you think we got it wrong, say so and a person will look again.

Reporting and blocking

Every post has a Report button. Reports are anonymous -- the person reported is never told who flagged it. We read everything, usually within a day.

You can also block anyone. Blocking is immediate and works both ways: you stop seeing them and they stop seeing you. They are not notified.

More detail on how reports are handled is in the Moderation Policy.
